New developments have been reported in a bus crash accident we reported in our last blog post. Officials from Jefferson County Public School recently announced that the driver involved in a car accident Wednesday in western Louisville was responsible for the crash that injured 4 children and 2 adults. The wreck resulted in the hospitalization of six people, including four children riding on the bus at the time of the crash.

According to the transportation director for the school system, the driver was a new employee and has admitted to turning into the path of the SUV traveling in the opposite direction on the road. The bus was traveling north on South 26th Street and the driver was turning left onto West Madison Street when the bus collided with the SUV.

The bus driver was said to be distracted at the time of the crash but it's unclear as to what the distraction was. According to reports, the driver completed 75 hours of training, which is more than two time the amount required for school bus drivers in the state. New employees are on a 90-day probationary period and the school district says that the driver will not be driving until the conclusion of the investigation of the crash.

As a result of the car accident, four children riding the bus were taken to Kosair Children's Hospital for precautionary care. The two adults in the SUV were taken to University Hospital as a precaution.
