The case against a Louisville woman accused of drunk drinking and causing a car accident that killed an 11-year-old boy is moving forward. Angela Baumia now faced trial on Aug. 17 and is now talking to the public for the first time about the charges against her since the accident occurred in June of this year.
Baumia is being charged with murder, drunk driving and running a stop sign in connection with the death of 11-year-old Dylan Geitgey back in June 2010. On June 26, Louisville Metro Police claim that Baumia drove drunk on Shenandoah Drive in Louisville's east end when she struck Geitgey with her vehicle.
News reports detail that prosecutors are planning on offering a plea deal to Baumia next week based on the discussion they have had with the family of Geitgey. Then, it will be in the hands of the defense team to decide to accept the prosecutions pleas deal or move the case on to trial. If the plea deal is rejected, the trial is set to begin in January next year.
According to a recent news report by WAVE 3 outside the courtroom, Baumia spoke with reporters about her charges and expressed "sorrow" and extreme sadness for what she did. She expressed that she has an 11-year-old child herself. Her attorney expressed, "She is extremely sorry about the accident and would like to express that to the family."
Baumia has pleaded not guilty to the charges against her and is currently in jail on $100,000 cash bond.
