A normal trip home from school on the bus turned into a trip to the hospital for a group of JCPS students after a car accident involving their school bus and an SUV. The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. on August 25 in west Louisville.

According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, "the crash happened at the intersection of 26th and Madison Streets between a school bus heading north on 26th Street and turning left onto Madison Street hit a Ford Escape SUV that was heading south on 26th." Authorities report that 11 elementary students were on the #0636 bus at the time of the crash, which was coming from Bloom Elementary school.

As a result of the car accident, four of the children were taken to Kosair Children's hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Some of the children complained that their heads or elbows hurt following the crash but none seemed to appear to be serious, according to police. The two adults in the SUV were taken to University Hospital. An additional passenger in the SUV sustained no injuries in the crash. The SUV had come from the hardware store when the crash occurred.

According to the driver of the SUV, he was driving and the bus turned directly in front of their vehicle. The driver thought "I don't believe this, there's going to be an impact" just before the crash. He expressed that there was not enough time to hit his brakes to avoid the crash.

A driver in the car behind the SUV stopped to check on the children and make sure everyone was ok following the crash.
